"Dream scape" Pony Model Progress

Hi, I hope you had a wonderful Holiday last week, and the weekend! I sure did, and am back at the paintings and projects in the studio.

I'm showing you the progress on "Dream scape". This is the second Pony Model I am working on. The first one was "Forever free" of a Mustang. That one has sold as soon as it was finished and has shipped off to California. I purchase the Pony Blanks from the Trail of Painted Ponies Company and sculpt the extra items on them and paint them. This one I have sculpted a little girl in a purple sleeper, fast asleep and dreaming of a Black Stallion galloping away with her. Isn't that every little girl's dream?? This is a progress photo, and the base just has an undercoating on it. It will be going darker.
If you are interested in purchasing this model, give me an email to hold it for you. I am selling the models for $240.00, and $15.00 shipping in the USA.  This surely would be a one of a kind Christmas gift for that horse crazy child, or adult. It is a work of art, and not to be used as a toy for children.
I've also been working on building a new website. Laptop trouble has made me lose my saved pages in my computer, so I am creating new pages. A new Laptop is on it's way this week. I'll be adding a new page, just for these models.
If you would like your horse painted onto a model, give me an email and we'll discuss the possibilities!

I'll keep you posted on the progress, have a great week!

The Western Straw Hat Watercolor continues By Debbie Flood

I can't believe how time flies, and even more so, the older we get. Gosh, it is the week of Thanksgiving. Tomorrow I'll be up to my elbows in baking pies.
I did find some time this week to work on the western straw hat watercolor painting.
I mostly worked on adding the background.
I also finished my "Forever free" Mustang Pony Model I was working on, from the Trail of Painted Ponies blank. It sold right away, and is in transit to California as I write this. I know it is going to a wonderful new home. I have since ordered another blank and will be creating something really fun and right up my ally! Think, Children and horses and dreams theme!

I've also been working pretty steady on the website, & membership I founded, of the International Equine Artists. I've been getting member web pages built and cleaning up the site. Then there is a big online member exhibit that goes live on December 1st. I have created four pages of Member's art to be in this exhibit and People's Choice Voting Polls. The exhibit was a short notice for the members and I am amazed at how many were able to come through with getting art entered. It's really a beautiful exhibit. If you are an equine artist, maybe you would be interested in our membership. You can learn more by going to the website link in this paragraph. I look forward to signing you on with us.

This week has been gray, dark and drizzly, with fog. It's hard to keep the spirits lifted, but I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving and being with family. Then the Christmas rush is on.
Happy Holidays!

Progress continues on the Western Straw hat Watercolor by Debbie Flood

Hello! Here is an update on this Straw Hat watercolor painting in progress. Today I worked on the horse head. Layering colors and putting in the eye. I also put a light wash on the top of the painting.

I've been working a lot on a pony model sculpture. I purchased the model from the 'Trail of painted ponies' and came up with a theme for it. I sculpted more things onto the pony and the base and then painted it. It's a mustang theme with the title being "Forever free". It is almost complete and I have it on my blog http://debbieflood.blogspot.com It is the pony in the rearing up form. I have a person who has put their name down for 1st refusal, but if you would like to put your name down for 2nd refusal, let me know. I also plan on creating some more. If you have an idea, or would like your horse painted on a model, let me know! They come in the rearing form, walking and galloping. They are about 6-7 inches high.

I also have a couple books in the studio, waiting to be purchased. 'The Equine Art of Debbie Flood, A brush with emotions, spirits & bonds of horses and man.' The book preview is on the home page of my website http://www.debfloodart.com

On another note. I've had to order a new laptop. This one I'm on is 5 years old and on it's last leg! Last week it caught a bad virus, that I was able to grab after much pulling of hair! The virus grabbed my anti-virus software and ran rampant! So, I'm sure that didn't help matters with this poor old machine. There's not much left for memory. I've dumped just about everything onto my external hard drive and am hoping that the new one comes soon so I can transfer all my email over to it.

I've also been getting the International Equine Artists website ready for an all member exhibit that goes live on December 1st! It's going to be an awesome exhibit!
If you haven't seen our website and membership roster, take a look at some most amazing Equine Artists! http://www.internationalequineartists.com

I hope the rest of your week is a great one!

Mustang Pony Model in Progress by Debbie Flood

I am so close to having this model finished! This is a Mustang model, from the Trail of Painted ponies models. I purchased the model as a white blank and added the flag, more mane, forlock, and fetlock hair.

I've been using acrylics to paint him with. One side shows three mustangs running, and the other side shows three mustang horse heads.
I've applied the Gloss medium-finish to the horse and the top of the base. I'll be writing in the title of the sculpture on the front of the base, where I painted on a name plate. Then I'll put the gloss finish to the rest of the base and the underside of the horse and he will be finished!
I have a name on this, for 1st refusal to purchase, but if you are interested in purchasing if it doesn't sell to the 1st person, send me an email debflood@debfloodart.com
Also, if you would like a pony model commissioned for yourself, email me, I would love to discuss what you have in mind. The ponies come rearing, like shown here, walking, and galloping.
Have a creative day!

Mustang, USA Flag Sculpture in Progress by Debbie Flood

I have been spending my time with this sculpture! Really having fun with it too.
This is "Forever free" and the model is from the "Trail of Painted Ponies". I purchased the bare model to sculpt on and paint. I purchased PaperClay to sculpt the flag, mane, fetlock hair, and ground with rocks.
I have painted on his side, three mustangs running free across the land with the backdrop of a setting yellow sun. I haven't yet started painting on the other side of him.
I had a bit of conversation about the Flag and where it is placed with a good friend of mine. There seemed to be a concern about it's placement and that I am not being patriotic. That couldn't be further from the truth. I have explained what the message is to my friend and I will also tell you.
This sculpture is telling a story from the Mustang's point of view. I am only the medium with which the story is being told through. A lot is going on out in our Western USA States where the Mustang is concerned. I am bombarded daily with information through horse organizations and others who are advocates for these magnificent wild horses. This sculpture is a result of my feelings towards all this media and hype. It is not my intent to bring dishonor to our flag, but to raise awareness of the harm the USA is putting on our wild horses. There are view points from both sides of this dilemma and debate, and I can often see pros and cons from both sides, with no real solution, so I stay out of political stuff and hide away in my studio, letting these things flow through me.
This is "Art". Art brings up emotions, whether good or negative, it is there to bring it up. Start dialog, get people to see something from another angle and way. This sculpture is what it is. A sculpture, a symbol and voice for the Mustang, nothing more, nothing less.

Thank you for following along with me on my artistic journey.
And from the bottom of my heart, I wish everyone peace and love on our Veterans Day Holiday on the 11th. And I offer "Thank you" for serving our Country.

Progress on the Straw Hat & Bridle Watercolor by Debbie Flood

I've been working on this watercolor still. I mostly worked on the bridle more and the hat. Lots of tiny detail that makes my eyes tired! I'll have more images, close up views of this painting on my blog too, http://debbieflood.blogspot.com

I've also found some more projects to play with! Yea I know...do I really need anymore projects? I am going to try my hand at the "Trail of painted ponies" models. I'm going to come up with some themes and create the scenes for the models. I'll submit them to the Official Trail of Painted Ponies Co., and see where that takes me.
That should be fun! The kid in me never dies! lol

I hope you have a great weekend!

Bridle progress for the Western Straw Hat Watercolor Painting by Debbie Flood

Today I worked on the Bridle of this 'Straw hat' watercolor painting. Lots of tiny details. There are those little beads on the bridle, and of course the buckles.
It's really coming along nicely though.

Also today, I have a new idea and image for my 'Belfast's past' Series of watercolors. This series depicts images and times of the early 1900's in Belfast Maine. 10% of sales from this series is donated to the Belfast Maine Historical Society Museum. I also have another purpose for this new painting, which has to do with another Museum close by. I'll disclose all of that when I know the painting is working for me and I am certain that it will be a part of this other venue. Once I get the painting going on it, I'm sure I will share glimpses of the process and how it is going along.

Thanks for watching and following along, I really appreciate your interest in my art and studio happenings!

Cowgirl Horse Watercolor for the Straw Hat Series by Debbie Flood

Hi,
I hope you are having a great week so far. I have been working on watercolors and this one is the start of a new straw hat painting for the Straw Hat Series. I'm not so sure this hat is real straw. Rather it seems to be that plastic hat that looks like a straw hat.
The image comes from a photo I took at the National/Maine Barrel Racing event, from this past Summer. I got some great images and you can be sure that I will be creating more paintings from them.

I still have some books in the studio if you are interested in purchasing a signed copy. The Equine Art of Debbie Flood, A Brush with emotions, spirits & bonds of horses and man.  $45.95 plus $5.00 shipping in the USA and $11.00 shipping to Canada. Contact me for shipping quotes to other Countries.
You can preview the book on my website at http://www.debfloodart.com send me an email if you would like a signed copy.debflood@debfloodart.com

Have a great week, and I'll keep you updated on this painting.
