'Do I have to' Watercolor for the Straw Hat Series by Debbie Flood

Hello everyone! I finished painting #9 for the Straw Hat Series, this is Do I have to 10 x 19 watercolor.
This is my youngest son, modeling in my father's straw hat. This image and the 1st one I painted, Contented, along with Shy, was the start of this fun series!
In this painting, I let the viewer incorporate their own story to this. I'm sure many of you have had a moment of "Do I have to!". You just feel like the wind has been taken out of you and you just don't want to do, whatever it may be!

Yesterday I finished a fun painting Barreling down. Click the link and it will take you to the painting on my Blog. It's full of action! A Western Barrel racer is going to plow you over if you don't get out of the way! Created in watercolor.

Well, it's Halloween weekend! I hope you all have a safe and fun Holiday! My family and I are thinking about braving the Fright Night at the Fort, at Fort Knox Maine! We shall see if I live through that! I think it is more of a grownup happening, rather than for small children. So we are taking our 15 Yr old boy, but the 10 yr old wants to stay with Grammy! He may have the right idea!

Have a fun one and I'll talk with you next week!

Barreling down, Western Barrel Racer Watercolor by Debbie Flood

This summer I went to a few Maine Barrel Racing events. Boy, they sure do ride fast. I have a lot of images to work from and this one, I loved how she carried her whip! And her hair flying out from under hat.

This is Barreling down. 14 x 17 Watercolor $1,200.00.
Though I usually work more detail in my paintings, I left this one looser and more spontaneous looking. They ride so fast and become a blur, I wanted to capture that moment.
I used light washes and glazed color over colors to get that glowing look to it. I like this one a lot.

Knight crawler, Maine Boat watercolor by Debbie Flood

Hi,
Here is my latest Watercolor painting, Knight crawler. This painting is 16 x 18. $1,400.00. Inquiries may come to my email at debflood@debfloodart.com .

See, I have been painting! I also have a horse painting in the works for the International Equine Artists' Holiday/Winter online Exhibit.
Knight crawler is a boat that I have seen over the years. Trips to the Duck-Trap Gallery, in Lincolnville, Maine, that carries my work, or trips to Camden, Maine. This boat rests at the top of a big hill, looking out over the country side, I'm sure it can see the ocean from that vantage point. I think maybe this one should be framed up and taken to the Duck-Trap Gallery, since it is a scene so close to the Gallery. If you are interested in Prints of this painting, let me know before I frame it and send it off into the world.

I've created a photo blog of my art with my website url. The Blog came with my website package, so I thought I would make use of it. You can check it out here: http://debfloodblog.debfloodart.com/html There's not a lot of text, but it is great for viewing the paintings.
I also have an updated Biography on there under the 'About' page.

Life sure has been busy around my studio and with the kids. The weeks just fly by. My book The Equine Art of Debbie Flood will be shipping out to the paid customers within the next few days. Thank you to everyone who has ordered a book!

Have a great week and I'll talk with you again real soon!

Fall Pasture 5 x 7 Watercolor $50.00 Inquiries may come to my email, debflood@debfloodart.com

Living here in Maine is so colorful. My house is surrounded by trees of gold, red and orange. And when the sun is out bright, things really glow! With all this color surrounding me, I just had to play with the colors! So out of my imagination I created this little watercolor of horses out in the pasture of fall.
I hope you enjoy this little peek into my world of color.

Reflections of friends Draft Horse Eye Watercolor By Debbie Flood

I've had this image all Summer, waiting to be painted.
I was at a horse show and across the quiet country road is a Draft Horse farm. The whole herd was out in the pasture. I wandered over to get some candid shots of them just being together, but when they saw me headed towards the fence, one by one, proding each other along, they came over to me.The look of snacks and hand outs was crossing their faces.
I took a whole lot of images. The wind was blowing and their soft long blond manes were whisping all around. The sunlight was catching here and there, in those wisps. It was a delight to capture them with my camera.
Later in the day, when I got home, I was unloading all those precious reference photos. I zoomed in on one. The eye looked very interesting to me. As I got it enlarged to 100% on my computer screen, I could see his pature pals, reflected in his eye!
I knew I just had to paint that. So here it is. Reflections of friends. 9 x 8.5 Watercolor. $350.00 Inquiries may come to my email at debflood@debfloodart.com

Do I have to? Watercolor #9 for the Straw Hat Series by Debbie Flood

Here is the progress on Do I have to? . This watercolor is 19 x 10 and is painting #9 for the Straw Hat Series.
I have been connecting with this painting on many different levels so far! All those feeling of not wanting to go do something, not wanting to go out into the big world alone, not wanting to leave the lush green grass of summer, not wanting to cross over that rainbow bridge. I'm sure you can put some of your own "Do I have to?" to this also! I'll be working on more details next.

I ordered the 1st printing of my new book. You can preview it on my website www.debfloodart.com If you want a copy and didn't get your request to me, I have ordered a few extra. Please email me so I can reserve one for you before they are gone! debflood@debfloodart.com Or I can put you on the 2nd printing order if they are gone.

Talk to ya later,
Debbie

'Camouflage' Watercolor for the Straw Hat Series, by Debbie Flood

Here is Camouflage 13 x 15 Watercolor. $1,200.00 Inquiries may come to my email debflood@debfloodart.com thank you.

When I saw this straw hat, yes, I saw it for real!, I thought, "How much straw is too much straw in a straw hat?" It really made me giggle, so I knew I had to put it into my Straw Hat Series!
This is painting #8 in the series. I have started #9 today, and that involves my youngest boy and having to do something he doesn't want to! I'm finding myself reflected in that image! I'm sure we have all gone through those feelings!
Enjoy Camouflage, and I'll work on getting a progress image of the next for you soon!

I'm happy to say that I have a good amount of orders so far! Thank you for those!

Today, I received my watercolor, Back in the saddle, back from the Breckenridge Fine Art Museums Exhibit, held at the Museum in Breckenridge Texas. What a classy act they are! They included a nice color booklet with the images of the winning paintings, and also all the participating artist's names in there to! And a really nice thank you letter. I'm sure I will apply for inclusion in more of their exhibits.
I sent out the watercolor painting "Big sky dreams" to the International Museum of Fine Art, Sun Bowl Exhibit 2010, in El Paso, Texas, today. Pinch me on that one! That painting won't come back until sometime in January 2011. That is if it doesn't sell while there.

In between all of this, I have been working on the new art group I recently founded. The International Equine Artists http://www.internationalequineartists.com The group is growing by leaps and bounds. I have been processing memberships, updating the website and fielding lots of questions, checking in on the private online forum and the facebook page. I've taken out a couple days of each week to work on this, and the rest of the week to work on art in the studio. Seems to be working out just fine for me that way. I guess it's all about time management!

I'm still open for more commission work. If you would like to have a Graphite or watercolor portrait done of your horse, dog or child, send me an email. I work from your photos and they can be sent through to my email.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

English Appaloosa in Graphite is finished by Debbie Flood

I finished this Graphite today! English Appaloosa 11 x 14 Graphite $95.00 plus shipping. Inquiries may come to my email at debflood@debfloodart.com thanks.

I really loved watching these two work together in the show ring. They were the highlight of my day. I used to own Appaloosas, so I am partial to them anyways!
It's always fun to move away from the colorful paint once in awhile and work with grays, & black & white. It seems to be a good excersice as well, with learning values, contrast, and different variations in the shadows. It helps me when I go to apply these things with color.

Not only do I accept commission portraits in watercolor, but for a less expensive route, I offer the 11 x 14 Graphite portraits for $95.00 plus shipping. I work from your non-copyrighted photos. They can easily be sent through my email. Have a great photo, only that there is a bunch of unwanted scenery in the background? Those things are eliminated in a work of art!
I look forward to seeing your awesome horse or dog images!

Not sure if you remember from past posts back the end of August, that I had to time crunch to get this painting created to meet a close deadline. Well, this was the deadline exhibit! And I'm so pleased it got in.
This is my second Museum Exhibit in Texas, within a a few weeks of one another. The painting Back in the saddle went to the Breckenridge Fine Art Museum Exhibit the end of August to the end of September 2010. That was very exciting also!
