"Hold the storm at bay" Western themed Watercolor
"Hold the storm at bay" 10 x 15 Watercolor, $1,200.00 inquiries may come to my email at debflood@debfloodart.com thanks.
I finally finished this painting and got it photographed. We've been having a lot of rain and cloudy days here in Maine and that makes for bad lighting for photographing in the studio. But I'm able to paint just fine!

More progress on "Hold the storm at bay" Watercolor
Hi, This has been an interesting week. The kids are home on school vacation. And as I said Monday, Tuesday was a full day and I didn't get to the studio. Yesterday was a pull my hair out day...ha ha. I took some video of my studio and some paintings. The idea was to post them on my Facebook fan page. Well, needless to say, I was most all day, video taping and then fighting with facebook and the computer to load them up. Which didn't happen. Facebook had other ideas.
So today I worked on this painting. I had part of the leg wrap in front of the person's leg and touching the ground, in previous images. The more I worked with it, the more it really didn't look like anything and it was creating a problem. It was just too much going on in that area. So, I took it out. I like this a lot better. It's more simple in that area, yet we can still see and know what is going on. I stopped there to let the paper dry before I go into it again and finish up the pant leg and a boot.
I also started work today on the winning 8 x 10 Graphite from my facebook fan page contest. I've posted that progress on the fan page.
I hope your week is going well, and you are storm free with warm temps, like here in Maine! Almost 50 here today! Come on Spring!
I'm sure it is making the horse people want to get out and ride!
Hopefully, I'll be talking with you tomorrow,
Debbie

The Puffin Project, Rockland Maine, Watercolors
Family Flight, Common Eider, Sea Ducks 8 x 10 Watercolor
'Puffin flight' Off of Eastern Egg Rock, Maine 8 x 10 Watercolor
'Residents of Eastern Egg Rock, Puffin & Hooded Gull, 8 x 10 Watercolor
I have completed three 8 x 10 Watercolors of Seabirds. Two are of Puffins and the other of the Common Eider, Sea duck. I noticed a call to artists from the Project Puffin. They are going to have a Summer Exhibit of the art and 50% of sales goes to the Puffin Project. This project reintroduced the Puffin to Eastern Egg Rock and Seal Island off the coast of Maine. I was there in the beginning of launching this program. I was one of the founding members of a Wildlife Carving and Art Association, The Penobscot Bay Carvers and Artists Association, who carved Decoys for this project. Many of the Wildlife Carvers created Puffin decoys for this project in it's beginning to reintroduce the Puffin to the Maine waters. So I feel very honored to have been there to watch those Decoys being carved and painted to be placed out on the small Rocky Islands off the coast of Maine.
Last Summer I was fortunate enough to go out on a boat tour to Eastern Egg Rock and see the Puffins first hand! I have a lot of photographs from that trip. When I saw the call to artists, I just had to create some works for this project! I feel very connected to the Puffins who live out there.

"Hold the storm at bay" Progress on Western Watercolor
Here is more work on the Western scene "Hold the storm at bay", Watercolor. I've gone in and darkened the sky more. I've also added some little dust devils blowing up from the wind on the ground. I also started adding dark colors to the horse's tail to the left of the painting.

"Hold the storm at bay" Western Watercolor Progress
This is the progress so far on "Hold the storm at bay" watercolor.
I just started this watercolor February 11. I realized that I needed 12 Equine Paintings for all the exhibits this year. So, I've been getting busy creating new works.
I'm really loving the colors I've got going on in this one. That late in the day summer storm approaching and the cowgirl hurrying to get the equipment off the horses before it rains.

"Her big easy chair" Graphite painting of a Friesian
"Her big easy chair" 8 x 10 Graphite, $95.00. Inquiries may come to my email at debflood@debfloodart.com thank you.
Now if this isn't a fairy tale scene, I don't know what is! This is the stuff that little girl dreams are made of. The princes' flowing dress, and the silver band that holds back the woman's hair. And of course the big black horse to trot away on. This Lady is riding side saddle. This is how Ladies rode back in the day, when they were to be proper and lady like.
I hope you enjoy today's graphite painting. I am taking on Graphite commissions now, if you would like to have your horse created into a lasting memory. All graphites are created on an 11 x 14 white Stathmore Graphite paper. The completed image is in the 9 x 12 to 8 x 10 range, with no background, for $95.00 plus shipping.
Contact me through my email when you are ready to book your special portrait. Thank you.

"His Royalty" Graphite Painting
"His Royalty" 8 x 10 image size, Graphite. $95.00. Inquiries may come to my email at debflood@debfloodart.com thank you
I worked on two watercolors today. They both have been works in progress for awhile now. But I wanted something else to play with too. I was browsing through my images and found this Friesian with rider in costume, that my mother had taken the photo of down in Florida, a couple years ago. So I slapped down the paper, hauled out my Graphite pencils and away I went. I have recently been chatting with another artist that I met online and the subject of Zorro came up, and the Friesian horse, so I will dedicate this painting to my new artist friend, Vance Parten http://www.vanceparten.com! This painting reminded me of that conversation.
Have a great rest of your day!
Debbie
