Progress on American Kestrel Watercolor

Here's more progress on my Am. Kestrel. I worked more on the breast feathers and adding shadow and light.
I also worked on the fence post. That thing sure takes some work! And I played around with the grasses a bit. It's getting there!
Thanks for looking.

Progress on the American Kestrel Watercolor

Today I worked on this painting a bit more. Mostly on the left side (wing) area. On Saturday I worked a bit on the fence post. I have to work in sections and in areas that keep me interested at the time...or I could get bored with it. If I get bored with it, then there is a chance of not executing a very good job and the spontaneity of it will be lost.

I have a nice interview~article online about me, my art and my passions. You can read it at http://www.theequinest.com/debbie-flood

'Zebra's new day' Win First Place at the Waterville, Maine Arts Fest in Downtown Waterville, July 19, 2009

I'm so pleased (and then some) to announce that this Oil painting, Zebra's new day, an 11 x 14 Oil on canvas, received First Place in the oil/Acrylic division at the Downtown Waterville Sidewalk Arts Festival, July 19, 2009.
I've been attending this festival with my booth since the mid 1980's and I have never placed at this show in the past.
The judging was held in the Blue Marble Gallery along the festival street. This also is where the Digital Image Works is located and my Giclee Reproductions are professionally created for me.

I want to thank those who attended my booth in Waterville and a big thank you to those who purchased my art. I hope you are enjoying your purchases. To see more of my work, go to my website Debfloodart.com

Downtown Waterville Arts Fest and the start of an American Kestrel

The Downtown Waterville, Maine, Arts Festival will be postponed, for Sunday, July 19, 9am-4pm.
The weather forecast for Saturday, July 18 doesn't look good at all.
So, come on out Sunday and see over 70 of us Artists line the streets with our booths and many other festivities are planned too. This is Waterville's 40th anniversary of the Arts Fest!

Yesterday I started this watercolor painting of an American Kestrel Falcon. This is a very young one, presumably learning to fly. The image was captured by my sis-in-law, not too far from my home.
I've included a close up of the head, so you can see the detail that I am puting into the feathers and the eye.
This is an image of the progress, as I still have a long ways to go with this one.

Hope to see you on Sunday, July 19, at my booth in Waterville, Maine!

TrayChic "Mustang' theme, table for the Maine Discovery Museum

Here is the TrayChic table, finished. Well, the painting is finished. Now I have to seal it. Then attach the legs and it's good to go! The image to the Left, the two mustang heads is the table top. The other image to the right, with the three Mustangs is the tray that nestles on top of the table.
This table will be auctioned off in November for the Maine's Children's Discovery Museum.
Click on through to their website to learn more about the Museum and the other tables that will be auctioned, painted by other Maine artists.

Time with her pony, and a Watercolor Workshop by Debbie Flood

Today's watercolor is 'Time with her pony' 4.5 x 7 $50.00. Inquiries may come to my email at debflood@debfloodart.com thank you.
How cute is that hat and sundress??? I couldn't wait to show you this colorful little painting. The sunlight is so bright and it bounces off the white coat of the pony & the little girls hat, arms and dress. It just amazes me, what can be achieved with watercolors.

Speaking of achieving things with watercolors, I have had a request to teach private watercolor classes. Since my studio is in my home and the space in the studio is limited, I would have to teach at another location & make it a workshop with up to 8-10 adult students. I have the place, and now I need to fill the workshop. I'll hold a 6 week workshop at the Waterfall Arts Center in Belfast, Maine for beginner adults once a week for up to 6 weeks. I also think it would be fun to throw into that mix a day or more painting outside. Belfast has a beautiful harbor and the boats and sail boats are out there bobbing in the water with seagulls and a rocky coast. Wouldn't it be fun to go out there and paint the harbor scene??! This workshop is $150.00 each and will be during the day 10AM -3PM, the exact day isn't determined as of yet. I'm pretty flexible as to which day it would fall on. If you are interested in this workshop, let me know. I need to know there is lots of interest in this before I can set it more in stone. If I have the people, then we have a workshop! So ask your friends and family too if they would like to come along to this with you, it's always fun with a friend.
The TrayChic table is almost done. As you may recall, I painted a table & tray ensemble for the Maine Children's Discovery Museum in Bangor, Maine. I need to put a protective coat over it and assemble the legs to the table top and it'll be good to go. I really need to get photos onto my other Blog: Studio Happenings . of the completed paintings on the table and tray.
I hope you are all having a great Wednesday!
Talk with you tomorrow at the 'Painting a child a day Blog, and feel free to email me about the paintings, or the workshop or any other questions you may have. I love hearing from you.
